Bison Profile: Tori Kitchel, OBU Women's Soccer

SHAWNEE – Junior Tori Kitchel has already had quite the career with Oklahoma Baptist women's soccer and she is ready to kick things off in 2021 after the season was delayed in 2020. This week's Bison Profile caught up with Tori.

What other institutions recruited you out of high school or junior college and why did you choose OBU?
"I was very close to committing to NSU in Tahlequah! I went on an official visit but had some older wiser people give me insight on maybe reconsidering. I spoke again with Coach White about coming to OBU and although I was super hesitant, I committed to the program. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I've ever made!"

Describe your love for the sport of soccer.
"Soccer has always been my No. 1 hobby growing up. I have put everything into this sport even if that meant not going to other things I also enjoyed. This sport is so important to me and has been a huge source of some of my favorite memories, people, and opportunities. I have truly grown from this sport in ways I never would have otherwise. Also it is so much fun and there is nothing like scoring a good goal."

What is your favorite memory from playing soccer?
"My favorite memory with OBU soccer on the field is from my freshman year when I scored the game winner in golden goal overtime against SWOSU to win the GAC Championship. I will never forget all of the students and fans storming the field. I don't know if I'll ever do something that cool again!"

Who has been the biggest influence in your life?
"This is a tough question. I feel like I have been influenced by every person in my life in some way. I believe everyone around me has shaped me and is put there for a reason, even if that reason is hard to find!"

Who is your all-time favorite athlete and why?
"I love Julie Ertz on the U.S. Women's National Team. She is an incredible leader and soccer player. I love how hard she works and her style of play. She is not someone I would want to play against."

What's your favorite pre-game meal?
"I usually don't eat much before a game. Maybe a handful of grapes or some strawberries are nice. But a pre-workout drink is a must!"

What is your spirit animal and why?
"For sure a dolphin. After I swam with them in 7th grade, they became my favorite. I love how willing they are to help others, how smart they are, and how everyone loves them."

What is your favorite pump up song?
"Me and my other junior teammates listen to Yeah! by Usher when driving to meet the team for any game. It's one of my favorite traditions!"
