Wright and the Bison Win Big in First Home Meet

SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist women's swim and dive team returned to action with a home meet against Texas Permian Basin this weekend, Oct. 30-31. The Bison came away with the overall win taking 9/10 events in day one, with an overall score of 156 and day two taking 11/12 events with an overall score of 159.

Cassidy Wright earned her fourth straight NCAA qualifier, on Friday Oct. 30, in the one-meter dive, scoring 267.60. To qualify, a diver must score at least 255 in a single event. "I am very proud of Cassidy and her leadership of the dive team," said Head Coach Matt Hood. "It is really exciting she got the qualifying score in her very first competition of the season."

In the speed events Julie Day, Laura Cifuentes, and Lydia Medigovich led the team in the 50-meter and 100-meter freestyle respectively. Day, on Friday, took the 50-meter with a time of 28.53, Cifuentes then bested her teammate on Saturday in the 50-meter with a time of 28.24. Medigovich brought home the win in the 100-meter with a time of 1:04.37, beating out UTPB's Ava Reaume by .32 seconds.

Anya MacPhail was the big winner in the distance events taking the win in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4:45.29, beating out her competition by over 15 seconds.

"The women did a really good job racing fast in both their main events and off events," said Hood.

The Bison will return to action on Nov. 13, at the Eagle Invite in Edmond.
