WICHITA FALLS, Texas - The Oklahoma Baptist tennis team's continued their fall season this past weekend as they competed at the Midwestern State Invitational.
The MSU Invitational was the second tournament of the fall season for Oklahoma Baptist. The first came just a weekend prior in the Tiger-Jinx Tournament. One in the same for
Kim Moosbacher who saw yet another dominant tournament outing.
Â
Moosbacher followed her Tiger-Jinx A draw championship with another A draw championship. Moosbacher's closest set came in her first round match, defeating Seward's Lucia Popluharova 6-4, 6-1. Moosbacher continued with that momentum by not dropping a set the rest of the way, culminating in a 6-4, 6-3 beating of University of Texas-Tyler's Gaini Ibrasheva for the title.
Â
Moosbacher paired with
Ethne Dowling in the A draw doubles play. The duo saw a semifinal bid with wins of 6-3 and 6-1 before coming up just shy of the championship game 6-2.
Â
For the Bison men, JUCO transfer
Bruno Suiama represented as he made his way to the championship in the Main Draw. Suiama took a page out of Moosbacher's book, sailing through his first three matches without dropping a set. Suiama kept the momentum through the first set of the championship match as he cruised to a 6-1 early math lead. After that, Midwestern State's Angel Palacios took the second set 6-4 and the 10-point third set 10-7, giving the tournament hosts the crown.
Â
Other Bison of note making noise was
Rhett Rollins. After an opening-round bye, the Sophomore found himself on the winning side of two three-setters en route to the championship in the Flight 3 Draw.
Kaey-Den Tan, another one of OBU's transfers, made his way to the semifinals of the Flight 4 Draw. Rollins and partner Matias Le-Fort saw success in doubles as they made it to the semifinals of the Flight 2 Doubles Draw.
Â
After two successful tournaments for Oklahoma Baptist, OBU gets their first crack at what conference play will look like when they take part in the GAC Tournament Friday, September 27 in Russellville, Arkansas.
