Gibson Signs Contract With Cincinnati Reds

SHAWNEE – Three weeks removed from an All-Star appearance in the independent Frontier League, former Bison pitcher Tyler Gibson has signed with the Cincinnati Reds organization.

The right-hander has spent his first two professional seasons with the Florence Freedom, finishing the 2018 season with a 2.42 earned run average and boasting a 7-2 record and 3.51 ERA in 2019 as the staff ace.

"This was long overdue for Tyler," said Freedom manager Dennis Pelfrey. "We are very excited for him.  He's going to do very well for the Reds organization.  Tyler is one of the best guys we've had in our organization from not only a baseball aspect, but as a high character guy."

A native of Wister, Oklahoma, Gibson spent his final collegiate season on Bison Hill in 2017 after stops at the University of Oklahoma, Seminole State College, and Wichita State University. In his lone year at OBU, the 6-4 hurler earned his eighth win of the season as the winning pitcher in the National Christian College Athletic Association national championship game in 2017.
