SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist softball announced the signing of junior transfer Tyra Garcia Tuesday afternoon.

he Farmington, New Mexico, native is a 5-5 outfielder from Piedra Vista High School. Garcia played at Feather River College the past two seasons, hitting .345 with a .417 on-base percentage while scoring 47 runs as the leadoff hitter in 2018. She was a Second Team All-Conference selection in 2017 and 2018.

In high school, Garcia earned Gold Glove and Gold Cleats honors in 2016 and was named Honorable Mention in 2014, 2015 and 2016. She won a State Championship with Piedra Vista in 2014.

"[Garcia] is immediately going to be an impact player for us in our program, both offensively and defensively," said OBU Head Coach
Sam Messer. "I'm really looking forward to having her here at OBU!"

Garcia was also recruited by Oklahoma Christian, Academy of the Arts, Texarkana and Montreat, but ultimately chose to become a Lady Bison.

"OBU gave me the opportunity to continue my athletic career with my academic career. OBU also gave me the opportunity to be close to family and have my faith grow stronger," said Garcia.

The daughter of Carol Carson and Jerry Garcia, Tyra has also volunteered with the Special Olympics.
