SHAWNEE – Seven Oklahoma Baptist baseball players were honored Saturday morning with All-Great American Conference honors.

Named to the First Team were
Juan Gonzalez,
Brett Berghammer and
Jake Gozzo. Earning Second-Team honors were
Caleb Bly,
Zach Fowler and
Zane Gelphman.

Berghammer also was named to the GAC All-Defensive Team and
Chris Kovach earned GAC Distinguished Scholar accolades.

Gonzalez, a senior catcher from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, was the only unanimous pick on the First Team. He batted .371 with six home runs and 32 runs batted in. He also threw out 10 would-be base stealers.

Berghammer, a senior center fielder from Half Moon Bay, California, finished the season as the GAC batting champions with a .400 average and the on-base percentage leader at .479. Berghammer was perfect in 84 fielding chances.

Gozzo, a junior right fielder from Redlands, California, hit .364 and was second in the league with a .699 slugging percentage. He had 11 home runs in the regular season.

Bly, a freshman pitcher from Midlothian, Texas, led the GAC and is third nationally with 14.16 strikeouts per nine innings. He is 6-1 with a 3.62 earned run average.

Fowler, a senior pitcher from Asher, finished the regular season at 7-3 with a 4.76 ERA and 74 strikeouts in 68 innings.

Gelphman, a senior third baseman from Half Moon Bay, California, wrapped up the regular season with the most home runs (16) and the best slugging percentage (.708) in the GAC. He ended the regular season hitting .327 and led the Bison with 51 RBIs.

Kovach, a junior pitcher from Simi Valley, California, majors in sports and recreation management. The award requires a cumulative GPA of at least 3.70.
