SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist swept the Great American Conference's weekly women's soccer awards, it was announced Tuesday.
Â
Ruth King earned Offensive Player of the Week,
Kerregan Edwards took the Defensive Player of the Week and
Emily Griffith claimed Goalkeeper of the Week.
Â
King, a junior from Shawnee, recorded her second hat trick of the season with three goals against Northwestern Oklahoma State in a 4-0 win and then scored against Southwestern during a 2-0 victory. Her four-goal put her season total at nine for the season after going without a goal for the first seven matches. For King, this is the second consecutive week she has earned the honor after sharing it last week with Alimata Rabo of SWOSU. King also won the award once last season.
Â
Edwards, a senior defensive center midfielder from McKinney, Texas, had a goal and two assists against Northwestern and also helped limit NWOSU to 10 shots and SWOSU to 11 shots. This is the first weekly honor for Edwards.
Â
Griffith, a redshirt sophomore from Parker, Colorado, registered six saves in 135 minutes as the Lady Bison blanked both opponents for the week. The award is the third consecutive GAC Goalkeeper of the Week for Griffith. She also won the award three times as a freshman.
