JENKS – Oklahoma Baptist, ranked ninth by CollegeSwimming, recorded a number of top 10 NCAA Division II times in the Jenks Invitational Friday and Saturday.
Â
"Some of our people swam really well, but we could be better," said OBU Coach Sam Freas. "We're taking little steps and improving."
Â
Victoria Fonville recorded the top time nationally in the 50 free at 23.48.
Â
The 200 freestyle relay team of Fonville,
Julie Day,
Jamie Edwards and
Marizel Van Jaarsveld finished in 1:37.8, which is the fourth-best time this season.
Â
Van Jaarsveld had the No. 2 time nationally in the 200 butterfly at 2:07.03 with
Juliana Cifuentes getting the No. 6 time. Cifuentes raced at 2:22.07 for the No. 3 time in the 200 breaststroke.
Â
Van Jaarsveld also swam a 400 individual medley in the 500 freestyle in 4:28. If that mark is allowed (since it was in the 500 free), it will be the fastest mark in the land by three seconds.
Â
OBU is in the Noble Complex pool Thursday at 3 p.m. for their only on-campus event of the fall semester.
