SHAWNEE – Jennifer Goethe and
Emily Griffith have been named the Great American Conference's Defender and Goalkeeper of the Week for Week 1 after a pair of wins against Newman and Central Christian (Kan.). The conference office announced the weekly awards Wednesday afternoon.
Â
Goethe, a junior from Shawnee, directed a defense that allowed just five shots on goal over two matches as Oklahoma Baptist opened 2017 with a pair of wins. The center back also notched the game-winner in OBU's 4-1 romp of Central Christian. Goethe has now been named GAC Defender of the Week three times in her career, the most of any Lady Bison in program history.
Â
Griffith, a redshirt freshman hailing from Parker, Colorado, picked up a pair of wins in her Bison Hill debut. She posted a 1.00 goals-against average for the week while owning a .600 save percentage on 13 total shots faced. It's the first time in her career that Griffith's been named Goalkeeper of the Week.
Â
Oklahoma Baptist has now had ten weekly award winners all-time since joining the Great American Conference and NCAA Division II. It's also the second time in two years that OBU has had at least two weekly honorees in the same week after Goethe,
Abigail Hicks and
Emma Beck swept the awards in Week 3 of the 2016 season.
