SHAWNEE – After opening up the 2017 season with a 4-1 mark, Oklahoma Baptist women's soccer now sets its sights on Great American Conference play when they head to Arkadelphia, Arkansas, to take on Ouachita Baptist at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 21.
The Lady Bison were picked to finish third in the GAC preseason poll earlier this year, and will look to top those expectations right out the gate.
Oklahoma Baptist (4-1, 0-0 GAC) boast a top-three offense among conference contenders this year, averaging 2.60 goals per match, and have never scored less than two goals in a match this term.
Ruth King is one of just two in the GAC with at least four goals to their name, and three other Lady Bison (
Emmily Infante, Regan Mann and
Hannah White) also rank in the top five in goals scored. King and Infante also rank in the top four in assists.
Defensively, the Lady Bison own one of the staunchest defenses after allowing just 1.60 goals against per match. That stout defensive display has allowed OBU to be one of just three teams with a positive goal margin at plus-1.00.
Emily Griffith has collected 10 saves through five matches while owning the second-lowest goals-against average at 1.54.
Ouachita Baptist (0-4-1, 0-0 GAC) has struggled to start the season, with their lone positive result coming in a 0-0 tie with Missouri Southern State. Briana Lozano and Shannon Stribling have scored the only goals for Ouachita thus far, and the offense has recorded an average of only 7.0 shots per match.
On the defensive half, opponents are averaging 3.2 goals per match on 21.6 shots. Erin Webster has seen the most action among Ouachita's goalkeepers, owning a 2.54 GAA and .727 save percentage.
