SHAWNEE – Seven Oklahoma Baptist baseball players were honored Thursday morning as selections to the 2017 All-Great American Conference Baseball Team.

First-Team selections from OBU are
Jinny Parra,
Juan Gonzalez, Bret Berghammer and
Josh Timms. OBU's Second-Team selections were
Zach Fowler,
Carson McPherson and
Zane Gelphman.

"It's great to have that many guys on the first and second teams, especially in a transition when we aren't eligible for NCAA postseason," said OBU Coach
Bobby Cox. "It's nice to have that kind of respect from the fellow coaches in the GAC. And all of those guys are well-deserving and all had great years."

Parra, a senior pitcher from Jacagua Medio, Dominican Republic, is 7-3 this season with a 2.60 earned run average. He has 76 strikeouts in 72.2 innings of work.

Gonzalez, a junior catcher from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, is hitting .340 with four home runs and 41 RBIs. He also has caught an incredible 15 of 27 would-be base stealers.

Berghammer, a junior outfielder from Half Moon Bay, California, leads the Bison with a .383 batting average and has 33 RBIs while batting leadoff most of the season.

Timms, a junior outfielder from Mansfield, Texas, bats .376 with a team-leading 10 home runs. He also has 47 runs batted in. He leads the Bison with a .676 slugging percentage.

Fowler, a junior pitcher from Asher, is 4-1 with a 3.35 earned run average. He has 56 strikeouts in 51 innings of work.

McPherson, a senior pitcher from Ardmore, is 7-3 with a 3.86 earned run average with a team-leading 84 strikeouts in 63 innings pitched.

Gelphman, a junior third baseman from Half Moon Bay, California, leads the Bison with 53 RBIs to go with his .330 batting average and seven home runs.
