TULSA – Oklahoma Baptist surprised NCAA Division I Oral Roberts Saturday, scoring a 4-3 win in men's tennis.
OBU scored a win at No. 2 doubles by
Luis Romero and
Thomas Ackerknecht, 6-4, but under NCAA Division I rules, ORU carried a 1-0 lead after doubles by winning two of three matches.
Lucas Castelo Branco and Romero scored straight set wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles and Kevin Adrusch won in three sets at No. 1 to set up a showdown at No. 6 singles.
Gianluca Galdi claimed a tough 6-4, 6-7, 6-1 win at that slot to give OBU the upset.
Now 2-3 on the season, the Bison travel to Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas, for a 2 p.m. match, Friday.
Oral Roberts dropped to 5-5. The previous nine Golden Eagles matches were against Division I schools.
