SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist outside hitter
Mikayla Watson was named D2 Volleyball HERO of the Week, HERO Sports announced Friday afternoon.
Â
Watson is a redshirt freshman from Whitesboro, Texas, that averaged 5.38 kills per set on a .315 hitting percentage while picking up 3.50 digs per set last week. She finished with 19 kills and 10 digs in a straight-sets win over Southeastern Oklahoma State and added a Lady Bison season-high 24 kills and 18 digs against Northwestern Oklahoma State.
Â
This is the first time Watson has received an award from HERO Sports and she becomes the first Lady Bison to win the award this season. For her efforts on the court, Watson was also named Great American Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the second straight week.
Â
HERO of the Week is the national award program from HERO Sports that recognizes the best individual performances of the week in each division of several NCAA sports. Nominees are posted at the beginning of each week and a fan vote determines the winner.
