SHAWNEE – With two matches left in the regular season, Oklahoma Baptist starts its final road trip when they head to Alva to face Northwestern Oklahoma State on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 6 p.m. A win or tie tomorrow assures at least a share of the Great American Conference regular season title.
Oklahoma Baptist (13-1-2, 8-0-2 GAC) are one of two teams to have clinched a spot in the GAC Women's Soccer Championships, and need two points out of their final two outings to clinch the right to host the postseason tournament. Northwestern Oklahoma State (5-10-1, 4-6 GAC) tenuously resides in the fourth and final qualifying spot on 12 points, with two teams within just three points.
The Lady Bison put up 22.62 shots and score 2.25 goals per match, paced by
Ruth King who is one of four players in the GAC with at least 10 goals.
Hannah White also ranks in the Top 5 with six goals scored, while
Abigail Parker ranks in the Top 10 in the conference on five goals. Over two-thirds (26-of-36) of OBU's goals have been assisted this year, the best mark in the GAC.
That high-powered offense will go up against reigning GAC Goalkeeper of the Week Kylee Wallace and a defense that allows a league-worst 3.0 goals per match. The Rangers earned their first shutout of the season against Ouachita Baptist last week in a 1-0 double-overtime win.
Oklahoma Baptist's defense continues to be among the stingiest in the GAC, holding opponents to an average of 8.8 shots per match.
Emily Griffith set the program single-season shutout record last week with her six-save performance against East Central in a 0-0 tie for her seventh clean sheet of the year, and leads the GAC with a .84 goals-against average.
Kelsey Bumgarner became the fifth Lady Bison to win GAC Defender of the Week in as many weeks.
Northwestern is averaging 1.19 goals per match, led by Karla Lopez and Calvonis Prentice on five goals each.
