Lady Bison Duo Named Players of the Week

SHAWNEE – After finishing last week with a 2-0-1 mark, Ruth King and Rachel Beiermann have earned Oklahoma Baptist women's soccer's sophomore duo Great American Conference player of the week honors, the conference office announced Tuesday afternoon. King was honored as the GAC Offensive Player of the Week, while Beiermann took home GAC Defensive Player of the Week laurels.
 
King, a Shawnee native, scored a goal in each match over the last three outings against Southwestern Oklahoma State, Northwestern Oklahoma State and West Texas A&M. Her goal in the first minute of extra time lifted OBU over the Lady Buffs on Monday. King also assisted on goals against the Bulldogs and Rangers, including the helper on OBU's match-winner against Northwestern on Saturday to finish the first leg of GAC play with a league-best 5-0-1 record. This is the first weekly honor of King's career.
 
Beiermann, hailing from Flower Mound, Texas, anchored a backline that allowed just one goal per match and picked up two clean sheets over that same stretch. She played 278 minutes out of a possible 291 minutes of action, while holding Northwestern and WT to a combined seven shots, including just one shot on-goal. For Beiermann, this mark the first weekly award of her career on Bison Hill.
 
Oklahoma Baptist has had seven different Lady Bison achieve GAC player of the week status this season, including the entire starting defense. In total, OBU has taken home eight weekly honors in women's soccer this year, marking a new program record for weekly awards in a season since moving to Division II. The Lady Bison have earned twice as many weekly honors as the next GAC school in 2017.
 
The Lady Bison (10-1-1, 5-0-1 GAC) are back in action on Thursday, Oct. 12 when they host Harding at the OBU Soccer Complex.
