Nathan Thompson picked up his first professional save Wednesday to highlight a strong week of play by former Oklahoma Baptist baseball players.
Thompson pitched three innings to get the save for the Rookie League Greeneville Astros. He struck out four in that outing. This season, Thompson is 1-0 with a 3.06 earned run average with 17 strikeouts in 17.2 innings of work.
Taylor Hearn had a strong scoreless inning streak come to a halt with the Hagerstown Suns, the Class A squad of the Washington Nationals. Hearn had gone 14.2 innings without allowing a run, spanning four games. He is 1-0 with Hagerstown this season with a 2.79 earned run average and 39 strikeouts in 29 innings.
Hearn's Hagerstown teammate Matthew Page is hitting .417 over the last 10 games, including two home runs and 11 RBI. This season, the former Bison NAIA Player of the Year is hitting .283 with 10 home runs and 60 RBI over 84 games.
Keach Ballard checks in with a .444 batting average in the last four games for the Lancaster JetHawks, the A-Advanced affiliate of the Houston Astros. Ballard is now batting .241 in 25 games.
Julian Merryweather is 2-3 with a 5.63 earned run average for the Class AA Akron RubberDucks in the Cleveland Indians organization. He has 25 strikeouts in 32 innings.
Kelvin Rivas remains sidelined with the Greensboro Grasshoppers in the Miami Marlins system.
In Independent Leagues, Chris Rogers is 4-2 with a 1.66 earned run average for the Alpine Cowboys. HE has five saves and 43 strikeouts spanning 51.2 innings. Daniel Baptista is hitting .272 with two home runs and 26 RBI in 43 games for the Sonoma Stompers.
