Bison Wrap Up ITA Central Regional

OKLAHOMA CITY – Oklahoma Baptist men's tennis has wrapped up the ITA Central Regional, played at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center Saturday and Sunday.
 
The Bison competed in singles and doubles against the top players from the region in a single-elimination tournament.
 
Lucas Castelo Branco made it to the round of 16 in the men's singles flight. He handily took down Augustana's Logan Barr in straight sets, then defeated Arron Reekie of UNK in the round of 32. Castelo Branco was finally bested by Alejandro Plaza of Washburn 6-0, 6-4.
 
Michael Vetter was defeated by Ouachita's Joan Moncada in his opening match of the tournament. Vetter then took down Jorge Serrano of Northwestern Missouri State in straight sets before falling in three sets to Southwest Baptist's Torben Semrau in the second round of consolation singles.
 
After falling to Ouachita's Luis Chab, Matias Le Fort took down Hayden Fluk of William Jewell 6-0, 6-3, in the opening round of consolation singles. Harding's AJ Barrington defeated Le Fort in the second round.
 
Senior Patrick Sims fell to Emporia State's Paddy Cameron before taking down Chase Stumne of Harding in the consolation bracket. Sims tournament run came to an end against Josef Altman of NWMSU.
 
Babji Atturu fell in his opening match to Lucas Graces from Nebraska-Kearney, and then dropped a match to Harding's Brandon Hogland in the consolation bracket.
 
In the doubles championship bracket, Le Fort and Vetter took down a team from William Jewell to advance to the round of 16. The top-seeded team from Washburn defeated the Bison pairing 8-3.
 
Castelo Branco and Atturu received a bye to the round of 16, then dropped a match to a team from NWMSU.
 
The tournament wrapped up play for OBU this fall. The Bison will hit the courts again on Feb. 11 when they face Washburn to open up the spring schedule.
