SHAWNEE – The Bison women's soccer team is heading to Arkadelphia on Wednesday to face the Ouachita Baptist Tigers at Kluck Field. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
Oklahoma Baptist is 1-6 overall and 0-2 to start Great American Conference play. They are looking to avoid a 0-3 conference mark, which last happened in the 2015 NCAA D2 transitional year. As for the Tigers, they are 1-4-2 and 1-0 in conference action.
Historically, the Bison lead the series with the Tigers 13-11-3. However, over the last six matches, Ouachita has won four. Below are notes on both teams.
For the Bison:
The green and gold fell in last week's GAC contests, losing 2-1 at Southwestern and 2-0 at Northwestern.
Wednesday's contest at Ouachita will be the fourth straight away from Shawnee.
Offense has been a main issue for the Bison. Their 0.71 goals per game average is last in the league. They also rank seventh in points per game (1.86).
OBU is do for improvement in a couple other areas too. The squad is fifth in the GAC in shots per game (10.71) and shots on target per game (4.71).
On the defensive end, the Bison team has allowed 2.86 goals per game to opponents. That ranks sixth out of seven GAC institutions.
Individually, freshman
Ryann Phillips is tied for the conference lead with two assists while classmate
Makenzie Christian is No. 2 with 6.50 saves per match.
Christian also leads the GAC in total saves (38) which is also slotted No. 38 in the NCAA.
For the Tigers:
Ouachita won at East Central, 3-1, on Sept. 19. That snapped a six-match winless streak to start the year.
Like the Bison, Ouachita has struggled on offense. They rank seventh in shot accuracy (38.4% on target) and sixth in points per game (2.14).
The Tigers do attempt 4.14 corners per contest, which is good for second in the GAC and are third in save percentage (.729).
McKenna Wright is second in the league with four goals scored while Lennon Porter is tied atop the GAC leaderboard with a pair of assists.
In goal is freshman Dominique Klujian. She has started every match for Ouachita and has played the most minutes (630) of anyone in the GAC.
Klujian's 34 saves are fourth in the conference and 61st nationally.
