SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist head baseball coach
Chris Cox has announced the hiring of EJ Taylor to the Bison coaching staff. Taylor comes to Bison Hill after spending the previous two seasons at Northern Oklahoma College.
He brings a blend of college, professional, and high school experience, and most recently served as the hitting coach for the Fond du Lac Dock Spiders of the prestigious Northwoods League this summer.
During his two seasons at NOC, Taylor helped guide the Jets to a pair of 40-win campaigns and two postseason appearances.
Serving as hitting coach, he oversaw one of the most productive offenses in the region as NOC hitters combined to bat .336 with 1,243 hits, 126 home runs and 1,019 RBI during his tenure.
Prior to his time at Northern Oklahoma College, Taylor spent time on the coaching staff at Southern Nazarene University, where he completed a standout playing career.
As a senior, he earned NCAA Division II All-America honors after batting .438 with 16 home runs and 49 RBI while leading the Great American Conference in both batting average and on-base percentage (.536).
Taylor also competed collegiately at Texas Rio Grande Valley and enjoyed a decorated career at Northern Oklahoma College. As a freshman, he earned All-America honors while setting school single-season records for RBI and walks. He later helped lead the Jets to the 2019 NJCAA National Championship.
Following his collegiate career, Taylor spent two seasons in professional baseball, playing for the Tucson Saguaros of the Pecos League and the Williamsport Crosscutters of the MLB Draft League.
A native of Midwest City, OK, Taylor earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees from Southern Nazarene University. He and his wife, Annie, are expecting their first child in December.
