INDIANPOLIS – The Oklahoma Baptist men's and women's track and field teams will send a combined 13 student-athletes to the NCAA Division II Outdoor National Championships next week at Emporia State.
This is the highest total of Bison ever going to the D2 championship meet. The previous high was from a season ago when 11 Bison were selected.
On the men's side,
Dwayne Fleming will take part in the 100- and 200-meter dash events as well as the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
Kobe Brown will join Fleming on the relay races as well as
Caden Peevey. Plus,
Gage Spencer is another 4x100 runner while
Ayo Toritsju will join the 4x400 team.
Lastly,
Korban Murphy will run in the 800. Among the best times for the Bison men, Fleming has the fifth-best marks in the nation in the 100 (10.11) and 200 (20.53) while Murphy sits in 11th in the 800 (1:48.20).
The relay teams are each slotted No. 13 in Division II.
On the women's side,
Altyn Bartley is readying for the shot put while
Jamora Horace and
Jacey Hammon have their sights set on the high jump.
In running events,
Asia Foster will take part in the 400-meter dash and 4x400 while
Trista Etheridge readies for the 800 and 4x400 relay. Furthermore,
Bianca Gleim is a member of the 4x400 team and
Favour Okoye will compete in the 400 hurdles and 4x400.
Horace is the national leader in the high jump at a national-best 1.83 meters (6') while Hammon sits in a tie for sixth (1.74m). After that, Etheridge is fifth in the nation in the 800 (2:06.07) while Foster sits in seventh in the 400 (52.86).
Lastly, Bartley sits in 13th in the shot put (14.84m; 48-8.25) while the 4x400 team is ranked No. 14 (3:40.48). For Okoye, she has the 16th-best 400 hurdles mark in D2 (59.09).
