History: Coner Jr. Becomes OBU’s First D2 All-American

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist junior guard Terry Coner Jr., earned All-American distinction by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) on Tuesday.

He's the first Bison player in the Division II era (2016-pres.) to earn top national billing.

The Birmingham, Ala., native has put together one of the best seasons in OBU's history.

On top of his All-American accolades, he was an All-Region performer, the Great American Conference Player of the Year and First Team selection, the Central Region Tournament MVP and Bevo Francis Top-50 Watch List honoree.

He's got a 20.0 scoring average, the 31st best mark in the country, and proven to be a gritty defender with 60 steals. That mark ranks top-45 in the nation. Plus, the 6-foot guard ranks No. 11 in D2 with 180 made free throws.

In addition to those statistics, Coner Jr., has helped orchestrate the best season in OBU's D2 history. The team's 30 wins are the most in Great American Conference men's basketball history. When OBU defeated Minnesota Duluth in the Central Region final last week, Coner Jr., helped the Bison reach the Elite Eight for the first time in program and GAC history.

Coner Jr. and the rest of the Bison take on Cal State East Bay (33-0) on Wednesday, March 25 at 2:30 p.m. (ET) in the national quarterfinals from Pittsburgh, Pa., with a Final Four spot on the line.
