History: Multiple Records Broken at Arkansas Qualifier

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Oklahoma Baptist men's track and field team broke two previous school records during the University of Arkansas Qualifier on Friday.

The first: Ayo Adelo's 400-meter dash. In that event, he timed in at 47.35. That bested a 30-year-old record set previously by Sheldon Edwards in 1996 (47.49). Adelo's time met NCAA provisional standards and earned him 10th overall in that event as well.

The second: the men's 4x400 relay. Adelo, Caden Peevey, Dwayne Fleming and Kobe Brown finished in 3:10.36 which was five-hundredths of a second faster than the previous school record in 2014 (3:10.41). Friday's performance was the 12th-best in Division II this season and met NCAA standards.

In other events, Korban Murphy and Rylan Nofire each earned personal-bests in the 800 meters. For Murphy, he finished in 11th place with a time of 1:51.61. That met NCAA qualifying standards.

Matthew Werschem added a ninth-place finish in the weight throw (16.46m; 54-.0) while Peevey took 10th in the 200 (21.84). Plus, Fleming's 6.81 finish in the 60-meter dash prelims was a provisional mark.

With no Great American Conference Indoor Championship, currently the next event will be the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships on March 13-14 in Virginia Beach, Va.
