PITTSBURG, Kan. – Oklahoma Baptist's
Dwayne Fleming registered one of the Bison's best finishes during the Pittsburg State Gorilla Classic this weekend.
In the 60-meter dash, he the top prelims time (6.74) before earning second-place finals finish in 6.72 seconds. That was a personal-best for Fleming and met NCAA qualifying standards. The performance was also the best among GAC competitors this season and ranks 14th in Division II.
Emery Crayton also earned runner-up marks in the 5,000. He dialed up a finish of 14:48.76 while teammate
Zachary Williams PR'd in the same event (14:59.41).
OBU had two other top-five finishes.
Nathan Goodson reached 1.93 meters (6-4.0) in the high jump which was good for fourth while Korban Murphy earned the same placement in the 800-meter run (1:52.19). Murphy's effort just missed NCAA qualifying standards by 0.18 seconds.
Lastly,
Boone Bennett took eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.32) while
Josh Kearse,
Isaiah Bottorff,
Ethan Banks and Murphy earned the same placement in the distance medley race. That quarter crossed the finish line in 10:08.56.
Next weekend, the team will compete at Oklahoma as well as Boston University's Last Chance Weekend.
