RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist sophomore safety
George Getanda was selected as the Great American Conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Monday.
It's his first career honor.
During the Bison's 34-20 win at Arkansas-Monticello this past weekend, the 6-foot safety had a career-best seven solo tackles, notched his first career interception and forced a fumble.
The interception, which came in the first quarter, was a crucial play. With UAM driving and the Bison leading 14-6, the Hurst, Texas native stepped in front of a pass in the middle of the end zone and returned it 25 yards.
With his help, OBU earned its first win at UAM in the D2 era. Getanda and the rest of the Bison return to action on Thursday, Oct. 15 for a 7 p.m. home game against East Central.
