SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist University seniors
Carson Kardokus and
Jentezen Smith dialed up multiple wins on Friday as OBU took runner-up honors during the Great American Conference Outdoor Championship at Hurt Memorial Athletic Complex.
For Kardokus, he rallied down the stretch to win the 1,500 in 3:59.46 before claiming first in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.63.
Smith turned in quite the day during the 100- and 400-meter hurdles. During the shorter race, he crossed the finish line in 14.55 before earning an NCAA provisional mark in the 400 (53.11).
Classmate
Sean Dixon earned the team's third 1st-place showing during the 400. The Jacksonville, Fla., native PR'd in that race with a provisional time of 47.50.
OBU also earned a few other top-three finishes on Friday. Dixon took third in the 200 (21.63) while
Nathan Goodson and
Quintin Richardson went two and three, respectively, in the high jump. That duo reached 6-6.0 and 6-3.50 in that field event.
Freshman
Austen McQueen also delivered a couple solid marks. He took third in the 110-meter hurdles (14.70) and earned the same placement in the 400 hurdles (54.91). Earlier in the prelims of that race, McQueen PR'd at 54.53.
Rounding out OBU's top marks,
Isaiah Willis earned fourth place in the 200 (21.65) while
Maddox Motley claimed fifth in the 110 hurdles (15.24). Plus,
Josh Kearse and
Jared Cheatwood each earned sixth place in the 1,500 and 400, respectively.
With the conference championship behind them, OBU will wait and see which men are selected for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championship in Pueblo, Col., between May 22-24.
