SHAWNEE – Evan Olson broke his own school record in the javelin throw during the first day of the Great American Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championship at the Hurt Memorial Athletic Complex.
Oklahoma Baptist's graduate student reached 66.84 meters (219-3.0) besting his previous record of 66.69 attained at the OBU Invitational in late March. His throw on Wednesday was also good for second overall and met NCAA provisional standards.
Teammate
Maddox Motley had a great night too. Through five events of the decathlon, he tallied 3,383 points which was good for second place behind Harding's Hayes Cox (3,464).
Motley finished in third place in the long jump (21-3.25) and high jump (5-8.0), and took second place in the 400-meter run (51.65). Plus, in the standalone javelin throw, Motley posted a personal-best 170-11.0 toss.
Among the other top performances on Wednesday,
Emery Crayton and
Maxamillian Wheeler finished in sixth and seventh, respectively, during the 10,000. Crayton completed the race in 31:36.04 while Wheeler crossed the finish line in 31:36.14.
After Wednesday's competition, OBU is in third place with 16 points and trail Harding (23) and East Central (22).
