OBU Baseball returns to Bison Hill for weekend series with Henderson State

SHAWNEE – The green and gold will host the Reddies for a Saturday/Sunday series with Henderson State.
Oklahoma Baptist Baseball will take on the Reddies of Henderson State with a double header on Saturday with a 2 p.m. first pitch. Sunday's action will see a 1 p.m. start for the series finale.
 
Bison Notes
  • Earlier this week, DJ Van Atten was named GAC Player of the Week after slotting at .750 batting average, 1.375 slugging percentage, 11 total bases, six scored runs and an on-base percentage of .800. 
  • The week prior saw the catcher for OBU, Braden Smith, claim the GAC Player of the Week award with four homers, 10 RBI, 19 total bases, and a 1.188 slugging percentage on the week. 
  • Lucas Schaefer leads the Bison with six homers on the season, totaling 24 RBI, 52 total bases, 19 runs scored, six doubles and two triples. The second baseman for the green and gold is batting .329 with a .712 slugging percentage. 
  • Bryant Thornton and David Stuart lead the staff from the mound. Thornton is 4-1 on the season with a 4.05 ERA after 26.2 innings on the bump, giving up 12 earned runs on 25 hits, 10 walks, six doubles, two triples and a couple of homers. Thornton has compiled 24 strikeouts on the season. 
  • Stuart is also 4-1 on the season with a 4.41 ERA after 32.2 innings on the mound, giving up 16 earned runs on 33 hits, seven doubles, one triple, two homers, and 20 walks. Stuart has totaled 28 strikeouts this season.
  • The Bison are 15-6 overall and 8-4 in conference action. After closing out the series at SWOSU with a win, the green and gold are coming into the weekend with a five-game win streak, remaining perfect so far in the month of March. OBU is 9-1 at home and 5-3 on the road. 
 
Reddie Notes
  • With an overall record of 10-12, the Reddies head to Shawnee with a 6-6 mark in conference play, coming off a loss to Mississippi College in midweek play. 
  • The Reddies' offense is comprised of several key members including Luke Farrar, Jeremy Schork, Luke Rice, Alex Galvan, Jaxson Gregg and Cal Jones. 
  • Farrar leads the team in BA (.373), hits (31), total bases (51) and slugging percentage (.614). Schork is the team leader in runs scored (21), homers (7), times walked (17), and RBI (23). Rice is a consistent competitor from the plate, batting .367 with 29 hits (second most on the team), six doubles, 20 RBI, 44 total bases, three homeruns, a .557 slugging percentage and a .433 on base percentage. 
  • Galvan is batting .357 with 20 hits, 10 runs scored, six RBI, one homer, 28 total bases, a slugging percentage of .500 and the best on-base percentage at .478 for HSU. Gregg leads Henderson with seven doubles. The first baseman for HSU has totaled 20 hits, 13 runs scored, nine RBI, two homers, 33 total bases, and a .524 slugging percentage. Jones leads the base running efforts for the Reddies at 5-5 on stolen bases and a couple of triples to lead HSU. Jones has totaled five doubles, two homers, 19 scored runs, 26 hits, 41 total bases, 13 RBI and a .506 slugging percentage.
  • Cole Rodriguez leads the HSU staff with a 3.24 ERA across 33.1 innings pitched. Rodriguez has given up 12 earned runs (15 total runs), 27 hits, 12 walks, six doubles, and three homers. The senior for Henderson is 3-0 on the season with 25 total strikeouts with an opponent batting average of .225.
  • The most recent meeting between HSU and OBU ended in favor of the Reddies with a 2-1 final for the home team in Arakadelphia. The Reddies look to improve their road record of 3-4 on their trip to Shawnee.
