GAC Honors Young with Weekly Award

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist sophomore Matthew Young had a school-record kickoff return against Arkansas Tech last weekend and in the process was named Great American Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.

The 6-foot-1 wideout from Rockwall, Texas returned a first-quarter ATU kickoff 100 yards to the house, breaking the school's previous long of 90 set by Ed Stark in 1933.

It was also the longest return in the GAC this fall and only the fourth kickoff return for touchdown by a Bison in school history. The last time a Bison returner brought one back on a kickoff was Keilahn Harris in 2021 against Northwestern Oklahoma State.

For Young, he's now up to 380 kickoff return yards this season with an average of 25.3 yards per return. That's fourth-best in the GAC. Plus, he's one of only two GAC returners with a touchdown in 2025.
