EDMOND – Oklahoma Baptist finished in 11th place out of 19 teams during the two-day Grace Shin Invite at the Golf Club of Edmond.
Morgan Simmons led the Bison, finishing plus-five and in a tie for 18th place while sophomore Marta Romero Crespo completed the two-round tournament in a tie for 31
st.
Central Missouri won the overall team title while Arkansas Tech and host Central Oklahoma followed in second and third, respectively.
Simmons was solid during the first round on Monday. The Memphis, Tenn., native was one-under, highlighted by her back-nine performance of seven pars and two birdies. Simmons was in a tie for fourth place after the first 18.
Tuesday was a bit tougher for the Bison's number one who was dealing with a wrist injury. She double-bogeyed a couple times early before finishing with a six-over 77.
For Crespo, the Madrid, Spain-based player for OBU, she improved over the course of the two rounds. She fired a seven-over on Monday before shaving four strokes on Tuesday. Over the final nine holes, she pared seven and added a birdie on 18 to finish at 74 (+3).
Freshman Priscilla Gant was OBU's third-best scorer. Her efforts were highlighted with a fine second-round performance. In fact, she was just two-over on Tuesday. A big part of that was her four birdies in the first nine holes.
The green and gold's final two scorers were Ines Diaz and Paisley Eason who finished in 76th and 94th, respectively.
There were also three individuals that competed for OBU: Emilee Pierce.
Stella Caskey and
Kloee Nichols. Pierce highlighted those individual efforts with a solid back-nine during day one, shooting three-over.
In two weeks, OBU returns to competition on Oct. 20-21 at the Missouri Western State Central Region Preview.
