SHAWNEE – After a great opening to the 2024 season,
Maxamillian Wheeler and
Sophia Strange snagged the first GAC Runner of the Week awards, the GAC announced Wednesday.
Bison Cross Country opened up their season on Aug.5 at the RSU Distance After Dark in Tulsa. Wheeler and Strange each secured first place in their races, ultimately earning the pair a couple of GAC Runner of the Week awards.
The men's team competed in the Men's 4 Mile Run. Wheeler took the cake with a 19:50.61 time, leading the Bison to their first collective victory of the 2024 season.
Strange claimed first place in the Women's 5000m with a 17:23.65 finish.
The duo led the charge in the first outing of the season for the Bison with an impressive standard set on both the men's and women's teams. The next competition for OBU Cross Country will take place on Sept. 20 in Joplin, MO, as the green and gold take on the Missouri Southern Stampede.
