SHAWNEE – Head coach
Jason Eaker and staff announced the signing of JC Curry to this season's recruiting class on Monday.
Curry is the third signee of the 2024 class, joining Zion Mitchell and Erik Madrid.
"We are excited to announce the signing of JC," Eaker said. "He will make an immediate impact in our backcourt with his shot-making ability, experience, and overall level of play."
Curry (6'4, 190), a guard out of Hartwell, Ga., spent the last two seasons at South Plains College and Chipola College. During the 2023-24 year with the Texans in Atlanta, Ga., Curry racked up 128 points (4.6 ppg), 41 rebounds, and 14 assists across 28 contests. His contributions helped South Plains reach the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship quarterfinals.
The sharpshooter reached double figures in five games, highlighted by a 17-point performance against Triton College, where he shot 5-for-6 from beyond the arc. Curry knocked down at least three triples in four games, including a pair with five makes.
As a freshman at Chipola, Curry was one of the top prospects in the nation and was named to the Jucorecruiting.com top 50 Freshmen list. He compiled 201 points (6.7 ppg) on nearly 40.0 percent shooting in 30 games of action.
Curry paced the Indians to a 29-5 record and to second round of the NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship. He reached double figures 10 times in his rookie campaign, including a season-high 20-point outing against Southwest Mississippi Community College. That game, he shot a perfect 5-for-5 from the field and nailed 8-of-11 at the free throw line.
Additionally, Curry ranked fourth on the team with 34 steals and registered seven contests with three or more.
Curry is a 2022 graduate of Hart County High School. As a senior, he was named the Region 8AAA Player of the Year after leading the Bulldogs to a 20-9 record and an appearance in the state tournament.
"With four starters coming back along with the healthy return on
Ethan Scott and
TJ Strong, our fans have plenty to be optimistic about," Eaker said. "To not have a player enter the transfer portal this offseason speaks to how united our team is and how we are excited to pursue a championship together."
