SHAWNEE – Jason Eaker and the OBU basketball staff announced the addition of Zion Mitchell to its 2024 signing class on Monday.
He is the second signee of the Oklahoma Baptist recruiting class, joining Erik Madrid, who the Bison inked in December.
"Zion is a multi-dimensional guard who brings great versatility and skill, which will immediately impact the team," Eaker said. "He has a track record of success at the high school and AAU level and has a tremendous support system behind him."
Mitchell (6'3, 200), a guard and native of Orlando, Florida, spent his last year of prep at Edgewater High School. During the 2023-24 season, he averaged 13.0 ppg per game on 44.0 percent shooting and helped steer the Eagles to a state title appearance.
As a senior, Mitchell also averaged 3.0 assists and 3.6 rebounds per game. He reached 20 points four times, including a season-high scoring output of 27 points versus Windermere Prep on Dec. 13.
Additionally, Mitchell was outstanding from beyond the arc. He sunk over 35 percent of his attempts and knocked down 42 threes.
Before his stop at Edgewater, Mitchell played his first three years of high school ball at the Master's Academy in Oviedo, Florida.
There, he recorded over 600 points, hit 100 three-pointers, and shot nearly 44 percent from the field. Mitchell also was a part of the One Family AAU hoops team in Florida.
