Bison Finish Runner-Up at GAC Outdoor Championships

MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Oklahoma Baptist men's track and field finished second at the Great American Conference Championships after compiling 188 points across the three-day event. 

Harding earned the GAC crown with 286 total points. 

Alexander Schovanec highlighted the Bison's efforts from Thursday through Friday as he smashed the GAC Championship (his own) and facility and record in the shot put. His winning heave of 17.46m (57-3.5) also broke the 30-year-old school record (17.32m; 56-10.75) set by Heath Doctorman. 

Furthermore, it is the 15th-best throw in DII this season. 

Trey Bartholomew tied for first in the high jump with a clearance of 2.08m (6-10), while Isaiah Willis took second in the long jump after reaching 7.22m (23-8.25). 

Evan Olson posted a provisional throw of 62.11m (203-9) in the javelin that placed second. It is the furthest throw in his career. 

Caden Martin wrapped up his Decathlon performance in third after racking up 5,264 points. His run was highlighted by a win in the shot put (11.13; 36-6.25) and a second place nod in the discus (29.34m; 96-3). 

Sean Dixon won the 400m hurdles in a career-best time of 52.62, ahead of teammates Jentezen Smith and Boone Bennett who took second (52.72) and third (54.09).

Bennett added a win in the 110m hurdles after crossing in 14.73, while Smith finished moments later at third (14.88). 

Caden Peevey took second in the 100m dash in 10.78 and Marcus Petersen placed fourth in the 400m (48.73). 

Carson Kardokus collected two top-five finishes in the 800m (2nd; 1:53.97) and 1500m (3rd; 3:52.28).

The 4x400 quartet of Dixon, Peevey, Petersen, and Willis won their relay with a provisional time of 3:13.97. 

In addition to their athletic achievements, Kardokus, Martin, and Smith were named Distinguished Scholar Athletes.
