SHAWNEE – Matthew Higdon and Trey Bartholomew garnered All-American recognitions on Thursday and Friday, respectively, in their field events at the NCAA DII Outdoor Championships in Emporia, Kansas.
Each landed spots on the second team with top-12 finishes, becoming the first Bison athletes to earn outdoor All-America honors in their respective events in the program's Division II era.
Higdon, a fifth-year, placed 11th in the hammer throw on the opening day of the national event. His heave of 60.09m (197-1) topped his mark (59.28m) from last season's championships that earned 14th overall.
Bartholomew notched the first outdoor All-America accolade of his career after clearing 2.03m (6-8) in the high jump, which finished in a tie for 11th.
Furthermore, it is the second All-American nod for the sophomore leaper, who collected a first team recognition at the NCAA DII Indoor Championships in March.
One more Bison will compete this weekend, Alexander Schovanec. He is set to throw in the shot put on Saturday at 2:15 pm.
