FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist junior
Jade Byrd continued her strong outdoor season as she claimed first place in the discus event during the University of Arkansas' Spring Invitational.
Byrd's toss of 48.61m (159-5) not only won that event, but it also registered as the fifth-best mark in Division II. The Stratford, Okla., native also claimed runner-up accolades in the hammer throw (49.11m; 161-1).
As a team, the Bison had several top-three finishes over the weekend.
OBU's other top finish was during the 4x100 relay, posting a time of 46.69.
Kyndall Hicks and
Anisha Henderson followed that up with a pair of second-place marks for the green and gold. During the 400-meter hurdles, Hicks clocked a 1:05.85 while Henderson completed the long jump reaching 5.91m (19-4.75).
The Bison's other top-three marks were delivered by
Elisabeth Jones,
Flora Dupans and
Altyn Bartley.
In the 400 hurdles, Jones finished in third with a time of 1:06.94 while Dupans had the same placement in the shot put. Dupans' heave of 13.95m (45-9.25) is the 22nd-best mark in DII. Finally, Bartley, a freshman, reached 44.69m (146-7) in the hammer throw, a personal-best.
Rounding out the best marks for OBU came in the high jump and 100-meter hurdles.
Jamora Horace claimed fourth (1.66m) in the high jump while Jones earned fourth in the 100 hurdles (14.40).
Mekenzie Connell and
Shayna Hendrix steered Oklahoma Baptist in the 800m with finishes at fourth and fifth. Connell clocked a 2:16.14, while Hendrix turned in a personal-best 2:16.90.
Also of note, Kimmy McKinney notched a time of 58.97 in the 400 meters which was good for 11th place. Plus,
Kelechi Christian finished in 12th in the 100 meters (11.84).
