RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Jade Byrd was named the Great American Conference Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday afternoon after an impressive outing at Emporia State last Thursday.
It is the fourth time Byrd has garnered the league's weekly honor in her career and the first time this season.
The Stratford, Okla., native notched her second outdoor NCAA Division II provisional mark after placing fourth in the discus with a heave of 48.04m (157-7). It's the second-furthest throw in her career and ranks third in the nation.
Byrd added a third-place finish in the hammer throw with a career-best hurl of 50.83m (166-9), the second-furthest of any GAC performer this season. Furthermore, it's the best heave by a Bison since 2019.
This season, Byrd already has notched four top-five finishes, highlighted by a second-place nod in the hammer throw at the Mark Phillips Cowley College Open on March 23.
Byrd and company will return to action this weekend at the Arkansas Spring Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.
