SHAWNEE – Head coach Jason Eaker and staff announced the signing of prep standout Erik Madrid, the first signee of the 2024 OBU Basketball recruiting class, on Tuesday.
Madrid, a 7-foot-2 center, is a senior at Union High School in Tulsa, Okla. He will graduate this spring before joining the Oklahoma Baptist Hoops program in the fall.
"We are extremely excited to welcome Erik Madrid to the Oklahoma Baptist University Men's Basketball program," said Eaker. "Erik is an extremely high-character kid with an amazing family and has played for and learned from amazing Coaches in Rudy Garcia and Kellen McCoy."
Under head coach Rudy Garcia, Erik has scored over 650 points in nearly four years of varsity basketball. He also has tallied 302 rebounds, 84 blocks, and has a career field-goal percentage of 72.0 percent.
Mardrid and the Union Redhawks currently have a 20-2 overall record and sit atop 6A-District 3 with a 16-1 conference mark. They've won 13 straight games, most recently a 68-40 victory over Putnam City. According to MaxPreps.com, Union is the fifth-ranked squad in Oklahoma.
"We believe Erik is a young man who sees the value and respects what an amazing opportunity it is to play basketball and attend school at Oklahoma Baptist University," said Eaker. "We cannot wait to be able to work with Erik and have him join our Bison Men's Basketball Family."
