RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist track and field members
Altyn Bartley and
Sophia Strange were selected by the Great American Conference as Athletes of the Week on Thursday.
In field events during the Washburn Alumni Invite on Dec. 6, Bartley broke OBU's previous 2009 record in the weight throw at 17.13m. That bested the 2009 performance by Olivia Boisee (16.27m). Plus, Bartley's throw was a meet record, took first place overall and met NCAA Indoor provisional standards.
Strange won the 5,000-meter race at Pitt State's Crimson & Gold Invitational on Dec.7. Her time of 16:47.40 was a personal-best and met NCAA D2 provisional standards. Plus, it's the 11th-fastest time so far this season.
