RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Oklahoma Baptist men's and women's cross country teams swept the Great American Conference Runner of the Week awards as the league honored Maxamillian Wheeler and Sophia Strange on Thursday.
Wheeler adds the accolade to his illustrious career after pacing OBU to a team victory with his win at the RSU Invitational. It was the program's first overall win since 2020.
Wheeler edged the pool of 63 runners for the top spot after completing the 4-mile race in 19:33.48. Furthermore, it was the second cross country win of his four-year career.
Strange, the reigning GAC Runner of the Year, also took top honors in her race after winning the 3-mile event in 16:59.24. Last week's victory marked the third individual win of her cross country career. Her performance pushed the Bison to a second-place finish at the meet.
