BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Freshman Gimena Errecart led the Oklahoma Baptist women's golf team to its third consecutive top-10 finish on Tuesday at the NCAA Central Region Preview in Bartlesville, Okla.
Shooting even-par for the tournament, Errecart finished in a tie for fourth to pace OBU and land a spot on the All-Tournament team. It is the second-highest placing in the program's Division II era outside the OBU Invitational.
After firing an even-72 in the opening round, Errecart matched the card with a final lap featuring two birdies. It is the first top-five finish in Errecart's career and the lowest final card by a Bison this season. She climbed two spots up the leaderboard to place behind Mia Rallo (Central Missouri), Allie Bianchi (Henderson State), and Maya McVey (Central Missouri).
Central Missouri won the tournament after Rallo won a two-hole playoff with Bianchi.
Placing second for OBU was Morgan Simmons, whose second-round 8-over 80 earned a tie for 40th. Simmons shot 12-over par for the tourney, highlighted by 76 (+4) on Monday. Morgan Becker fired a 6-over 78 today, a stroke better than her 79 (+7) in the opening round, to claim a tie for 44th.
Simmons and Becker tied for the most Birdies on the team on the final 18 holes, a part of OBU's 14 for the tournament.
Rounding out the Bison's participants were Sam Lehr (88th), Josefina Serres Scheffer (92nd), and Ramsey Gunter (96th).
Oklahoma Baptist will play its first tournament close to home next Monday, Oct. 2, at the Grace Shin Invitational. The two-day event is scheduled to take place at the Golf Club of Edmond.
