Baker Tabbed GAC Player of the Week

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – For the second consecutive week, an Oklahoma Baptist football player has been named the Great American Conference Defensive Player of the Week as Scooter Baker picked up the league's honor on Monday.

It is Baker's second GAC weekly honor of his career and first on Bison Hill, earning another as a member of Southeastern Oklahoma State in 2021.

Baker produced a career-high 15 tackles, 3.0 tackles-for-loss, and a sack in OBU's win over East Central on Saturday. Eight of Baker's stops were unassisted, while his work behind the line of scrimmage accounted for 10 yards lost.

The Jacksonville, Texas native recorded 3.0 TFLs one other time in his career. That performance, a Nov. 6 matchup against Ouachita Baptist while playing for Southeastern in 2021, earned him the league's weekly honor as mentioned before.

This season, Baker leads Oklahoma Baptist in tackles (33) while ranking second in TFLs (4.0) and sacks (2.0). In his career, which includes stops at Southeastern (2019-21) and the University of Incarnate Word (2022), Baker totals 176 tackles, 12.0 TFLs, 3.5 sacks, three fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble.

Baker and company return home on Saturday to face No. 24 Henderson State at Crain Family Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
