SHAWNEE, Okla. – The Oklahoma Baptist men's basketball program added its eighth and final signee to the 2023 recruiting class as head coach Jason Eaker and staff announced the signing of Matthew Veen.
Veen (6'6, 190), a forward, has two years of eligibility remaining. He joins the Bison after spending last season at Cedarville University in Ohio. Prior to his stop with the Yellow Jackets, Veen played one year at Eastern Wyoming College.
"We are excited about Matthew joining our family this late in the process," said Eaker. "Having played for two of our friends in Pat Estepp at Cedarville and Randy Nesbit, former Roane State men's head basketball coach and athletic director, along with a strong recommendation from Morris Michalski of Athletes in Action, we were certain of Matthew's desire to be a part of the OBU community."
During the 2021-22 season, Veen made 16 starts in 29 games and averaged 6.6 ppg on 51.3 percent shooting at EWC. He added 110 rebounds (3.8/g), 38 assists, 28 steals, and 11 blocks.
Before transferring to Eastern Wyoming, Veen spent 2020-21 at Roane State Community College. He racked up 103 points in 16 games with the Raiders, averaging 6.4 points per contest on 44 percent shooting. Veen also pulled down 74 rebounds, including 50 boards on the defensive end and tallied 14 steals.
A 2019 graduate of Mullen High School in Denver, Colorado, Veen attended Link Year Prep (2020-21) before making the trek to Roane State in the fall of 2021.
"Getting the opportunity to play or coach basketball at Oklahoma Baptist University is an opportunity of a lifetime," said Eaker. We narrowed our focus this spring, first internally and then on the recruiting trail, in building our roster with young men that understand the value of Oklahoma Baptist and the strong foundation set by our former players."
