SHAWNEE – Former Oklahoma Baptist standout Jake Gozzo was promoted to Double-A Chattanooga, an affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, recently.
Prior to joining the Lookouts in Tennessee, Gozzo, a pitcher, was part of the Dayton Dragons in Ohio.
His efforts this minor-league season have been impressive. The Redlands, Calif., native and 2019 OBU graduate has appeared in 24 games, posted a 4-2 record and notched five saves. Plus, in 36.0 innings pitched, Gozzo has 32 strikeouts, a 1.19 WHIP and held opposing batters to a .182 average.
During his playing days in Shawnee, Gozzo notched 32 career homers, fifth-most all-time, was a two-time First Team All-GAC selection, was the GAC's Defensive Player of the Year in 2019 and earned three all-region honors.
