NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma Baptist men's track and field team tallied 18 top-three finishes and one first-place finish at Oklahoma's John Jacobs Invitational this weekend.
Freshman Trey Bartholomew won in the high jump with a leap of 2.00m (6-6.75), while Jonathan Elix placed third after clearing 1.90m (6-2.75). Elix also placed fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 11.17m (36-7.75).
Jonathan Jones' 46.53m (152-8) heave in the javelin throw earned fourth place. The 4x100 relay squad (Brendan Sanders, Jentezen Smith, Marcus Petersen, and Isaiah Willis) recorded a 41.49, taking home third.
Shortly after, two Bison finished top-five in the 1500m Maxamillian Wheeler (4:02.08) and Samuel Fantoni (4:03.78).
Petersen earned third in the 400m with a time of 48.36. Simultaneously at the pole vault, Anthony Phillips notched a second-place finish with a mark of 4.45m (14-7.25).
Finishing third and fifth in the 5000m were Parker Ables (15:02.94) and Wheeler (15:03.53).
Next, Alexander Schovanec and Matthew Higdon attained the only NCAA DII qualifying marks for the Bison with fourth and eighth-place finishes in their events. Schovanec tallied a 52.40m (171-11) in the discus, while Higdon hurled a 56.99m (187-0) in the hammer throw.
To earn a fifth-place finish in the 800m, Emmett Murphy clocked a time of 1:57.38. Shortly after, Smith and Aaryn Anderson finished second and third in the 400m hurdles at 54.58 and 55.71.
In relay action, the 4x400 squad (Peterson, Jared Cheatwood, Murphy, and Willis) clocked a 3:15.89 to earn second place overall. Then the 4x100 relay team (Brendan Sanders, Jentezen Smith, Marcus Petersen and Isaiah Willis) recorded a 41.49 to place third.
The Bison are back on the track Wednesday, April 26th competing at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.
