SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist (14-14) will look to run its season record against Southeastern Oklahoma State (14-16) to 4-0 on Wednesday when the two teams meet at 3 p.m. in Durant.
A little over two weeks ago, OBU won the three-game GAC series by a combined score of 30-9.
The Bison have plenty of motivation to get this week off on the right foot after being swept in three close games at No. 11 Southern Arkansas last weekend. Despite the losses, a pair of Bison had their best week to date.
Alex Schroeder batted a whopping .538 with a team-high three doubles, a homer and slugging percentage of 1.000. Plus, senior
Dan Pruitt posted a .438 batting average with five runs scored, a triple and a homer.
Pruitt's marks moved the GAC statistical leaders around a bit. He and Schroeder are now tied for second with nine home runs, three off the conference lead. Plus, Pruitt ranks tenth in slugging (.650) and tied for 11th with 67 total bases. Also of note, senior
Kade Self is tied for third with 37 RBI.
On the mound, the green and gold will look to improve. During four games last week, the staff had an earned run average of 12.44.
Jake Hamilton and
Jordan Brewer led OBU with six strikeouts apiece in 9.0 combined innings pitched. This season, Hamilton boasts 56 strikeouts, 18 looking. Both of those stats rank in the top-five of the GAC.
As per the course for mid-week affairs, expect a handful of Bison pitchers to earn playing time. Over OBU's last two mid-week contests,
Garrett Kellogg-Clarke,
Logan Kimbro,
Will Duncan,
Jordan Brewer and
Nolan Feazle have reached the mound.
Southeastern has lost three straight coming into Wednesday's game. Those came in Arkadelphia against Ouachita last weekend.
Damon Burroughs is the headline offensive player for the Savage Storm. He is in the top-three of the GAC in five categories: batting (.432); slugging (.726); on-base (.538); triples (6) and stolen bases (13). In the previous series against the Bison he notched four hits in 11 at-bats with five RBI. Also of note, Sam Creed is the GAC leader with 18 stolen bases.
SE's pitching efforts during its last two mid-week games have seen a host of hurlers. Bristol Carson has started the last two for the Storm while Jackson Sioson and Patrick Norman have earned playing time.
