LUBBOCK, Texas – The quartet of Marcus Petersen, Jentezen Smith, Isaiah Willis, and Jared Cheatwood won the 4x400 relay final with a time of 3:18.98 to claim the highest finish of any Bison at the Texas Tech Matador Qualifier on Friday.
It was the first time a Bison men's relay team has taken top honors in an event this season.
Freshman jump specialists Jonathan Elix and Trey Bartholomew placed third and fourth in the high jump final. Elix cleared 2.04m (6'-8.25"), while Bartholomew leaped 1.99m (6'-6.25").
Isaiah Willis had a day, taking third in the long jump final (7.45m – 24' 5.5") before claiming fifth in the 200m final with a personal-best time of 21.59. The latter was an NCAA DII provisional qualifying mark.
Anthony Phillips also recorded a qualifying mark in the pole vault final, finishing sixth with a 4.80m (15'-9") vault.
Marcus Petersen claimed fifth in the 400m final with a PR of 48.75, while Alexander Schovanec placed fourth in the shot put with a heave of 15.59m (51'-1.75").
On the women's side, Anisha Henderson notched a qualifying mark in the long jump for second place at 5.84m (19'-2"). In the pole vault, Emily Julian finished third with a season-best 3.69m (12'-1.5") vault. Kendalyn Stueve and Maya Sullivan followed in fifth and sixth with matching 3.39m (11'-1.5") marks.
Olivia Tate met the DII provisional standard in the 200m for the second time this season, clocking a personal-best 24.66. Meanwhile, Kaylen King took third in the 600-yard final in 1:27.93.
Kimberly McKinney, Delaney Riekert, and Tahlor Brown picked up PRs in the 400m. McKinney placed eighth (58.64), Rierket in 10th (59.20), and Brown in 11th (59.80).
Brown also finished top 10 in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.32.
Concluding the women's finishes was the 4x400 relay team of Brown, McKinney, Tate, and Riekert. The squad finished third in the event in 3:53.48.
Next, the Oklahoma Baptist men's and women's track and field teams will have their last opportunity to qualify for the NCAA DII Indoor Championships at the Fast Track Last Chance Invitational on Friday, Feb. 24.
