PITTSBURG, Kan. – Oklahoma Baptist's Jamora Horace had the women's highest finish as the Bison men's and women's track and field teams opened their weekend at Pittsburg State's Gorilla Classic.
Horace registered a third-place finish in the high jump as she reached 1.63m (5'-4.25") OBU's next-best mark came courtesy Sophia Strange. The sophomore, competing in the 5,000-meter run, crossed the finish line in fourth place with a time of 17:10.53.
OBU received a pair of fifth-place marks after that.
Anisha Henderson set a new personal best in the long jump. Last week, Henderson reached 5.68m (18'-7.75") at the Herm Wilson Invitational before reaching 5.76m (18'-10.75") on Friday evening.
The other fifth-place slot was delivered by Kaylen King. She had a PR in the 600-yard run as she crossed the finish line in 1:26.57.
Rounding out OBU's efforts on Friday were Maya Sullivan, who took ninth in the pole vault event, while Olivia Tate earned the same mark in the 200-meter dash.
On the men's side, Maurice McMullen clocked an indoor personal best 8.25 in the 60m hurdles for second place. It was the highest placing for the men today.
Senior Matthew Higdon broke his school record in the weight throw with a heave of 19.06 (62'-6"). The mark garnered a sixth-place finish.
Rounding out the notables was Isaiah Willis 7.11m (23'-4") leap that placed third in the long jump.
Tomorrow's competitions start at 11 a.m. at Harvey Dean Track.
