Frierson, Hellmuth Selected for Weekly Honors

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist's D'Erricka Frierson and Avery Hellmuth were named Great American Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, on Monday after directing OBU to two wins and a share of the GAC regular season title last week.

It's the second career honors for both players.

Frierson, a senior from McKinney, Texas led the team with 32 kills over nine sets, a 3.56 average, in wins against rival Southwestern Oklahoma State and Southern Nazarene. Those victories helped OBU claim its fourth regular season championship.

The outside hitter's best night came against SNU when she recorded 18 kills, one off her career high. With her performances, she moved into the top-10 of the GAC in both kills and points. Frierson also teamed up with Hellmuth on a match-clinching block to secure victory over SWOSU in a great, five-set match last Monday.

As for Hellmuth, a native of Dallas, she dialed up two solo blocks and eight more assisted blocks for a total of 10. She averaged 1.11 for the week and moved into eighth place in the league in blocks per set (0.87).

Frierson, Hellmuth and the rest of the Bison will next prepare for the conference tournament set for Nov. 16 at 12:30 p.m. against Ouachita.
