EDMOND, Okla. – Morgan Becker and Josefina Serres Scheffer shot 2-over par in the opening round of the Grace Shin Invitational to land the OBU's women's golf team in 10th place on Monday.
As a team, Oklahoma Baptist shot 311 (+27), while no. 25 Central Missouri led the field with a three-under-par card through the first 18 holes.
The duo are tied for 10th of 90 players. For Serres Scheffer, it's the lowest round of her inaugural campaign on Bison Hill. Her run featured two birdies and the squad's best score on the front nine.
Becker sunk a career-best five birdies, the most of any participant in the tournament. Becker made her money on the back nine, recording three 1-under-par shots en route to an even-par finish. Furthermore, she tied for the best stroke average on Par 3s (2.60) and Par 5s (4.50).
Up next for Oklahoma Baptist was Morgan Simmons, who is tied for 26th after a 5-over 76. Simmons' day included one birdie and a 2-over card on the back nine. Following behind was Sam Lehr's 81 (+10), which placed in a tie for 65th alongside Rylie Spaulding.
Valentina Nunez-Butzonitch and Gimena Errecart shot one stroke of each other, claiming a share of 75th and 79th with scores of 83 (+12) and 84 (+13), respectively.
Rounding out OBU's participants were Ramsey Gunter and Kloee Nichols, who sit in 85th and 90th.
