WICHITA, Kan. – The Oklahoma Baptist track and field teams collected two wins at the two-day Wichita State Herm Wilson Invitational this weekend.
Matthew Higdon and Anisha Henderson highlighted OBU's efforts at the meet, as they earned top honors in their respective events.
Higdon collected his first overall indoor win in the weight throw with an 18.24m (59'-10.25") mark. It is the second furthest indoor heave of his career with the Bison.
Henderson, a sophomore, took first place in the long jump after recording a personal-best indoor mark and meeting the NCAA DII provisional standard with a mark of 5.68m (18'-7.75"). Her previous best came last season at the Crimson and Gold Invitational when she leaped 5.63m (18'-5.75"). Henderson also placed fourth in the triple jump with a 10.78m (35'-4.5").
In the weight throw, sophomore Jade Byrd charted a career-best 15.13m (49'-7.75") for second place. Caitlin Mannon also placed in the top ten (7th) with a 14.29m (46'-10.75").
Kendalyn Stueve and Emily Julian finished sixth in the pole vault after registering matching marks of 3.59m (11'-9.25"). In the high jump, freshman Jamora Horace took fifth with a 1.65m (5'-5"), a match of her PR.
Rounding out the notables on the women's side was Kamdyn Moody's sixth-place finish in the pentathlon. Moody accumulated 3,159 points, highlighted by a PR in the shot put (10.76m-35' 3.75").
For the men, freshmen Trey Bartholomew and Jonathan Elix recorded matching marks of 2.00m (6'-6.75") in the high jump for fourth and fifth place.
In the shot put, Alexander Schovanec took fourth with a 14.81m (48'-7.25") heave. Lastly, Sloan Lewis and Caden Martin earned sixth and seventh in the heptathlon. Lewis' 4,100 point total was a personal best.
Next up for the Bison is a trip to the Washburn Open next Saturday (Feb. 3) in Topeka, Kan.
